The process for entering the Self-Determination Program
is unique to each participant.
It also depends on how long each regional center takes to implement the transition process into the program.
It’s a good idea to contact each Financial Management Service (FMS) agency directly to learn about their requirements and how they operate.

Services for pre-teens ages 10–13:
- Guidance for parents and legal guardians of children who are newly enrolled or preparing to enter middle school, who are eligible for special education services and are Regional Center clients.
- We provide specialized support to help pre-teens successfully reach the ITP (Individualized Transition Plan) stage at age 16 with their school district.
Services include:
- Consultations by appointment – via phone, video calls, or in person if necessary.
- Connections and diverse resources to help navigate the challenges that may arise during this important stage
- Ongoing support and guidance in navigating systems such as:
- Regional Center
- Medi-Cal
- IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services)
- CCS (California Children’s Services)
- Mental health services
- Social Security (SSI/SSDI)
- Regional Center

- Financial education for families
- Self-Determination Program – for eligible pre-teens receiving services from the Regional Center

We offer a variety of supports, guidance, and resources for parents and legal guardians of youth beginning at age 13, who are eligible for special education and are in the process of—or seeking—eligibility for specialized services and supports.
